Reflections – March 29, 2012

What a week!

This has quite probably been one of the most exhausting, and yet exhilarating weeks I’ve ever had. As I’ve mentioned in past posts, we’re going through our four countries’ audits right now, with the “shared service” portion of the audit wrapping up last week. This week kicked off the prep work for our local Danish audit, which is primarily my area of responsibility in the office (most of the processes which get audited during the local portion are under my umbrella – such as payroll, intercompany, and so forth).

That meant some late nights at the Day Job, which made for a long week, even though it was only three days long for me. Which made the fact that I finally released my first novella during this busy period a bit of an idiotic move I think. Not that releasing it was stupid, but in hindsight I think I could have timed it a bit better. The night I released it (on Tuesday), I don’t think I slept very well, as I was nervous about how it would be received.

But I managed to get it all done, and get a little bit ahead of my normal work, so I could take a couple of days off. Though that doesn’t mean I can rest on my laurels now. Work on the novel has been very slow this week, mostly due to the Day Job. So now that I’m off tomorrow (today was spent with my darling Mrs who celebrated her birthday), despite a road trip to turn keys over to our new tenant, will be spent trying to catch up on my word count for the week (I’m about 6k behind this week…so time to kick it up some).

All in all though, I’m glad that this week happened. Despite the slow movement on the novel, I couldn’t be happier with how well the novella seems to be doing right now. Granted, it’s most likely friends and family who bought it (a huge thank you goes out to you all who have bought it!), it is showing some promise. I’ve already had a very nice review, and I’m hopefully the word is beginning to be spread around. I think in the coming days I’m going to follow in the footsteps of one of my publishing acquaintances and post up sales info.

I think I’ll leave it there for the time being. I’m working on a couple of things to go up on the site here soon. I’ll probably post a teaser from the novella, as well as a teaser from the novel. I’m also outlining a couple of other short stories that I hope to work on over the Easter break, so lots coming!

Cheers all! And have a good one!
